Following policies set by the City Council Strategic Plan to attract more local jobs and under Hoover’s seven-year management, the Economic Development team helped bring more than 1,000 jobs and a million square feet of commercial development to Surprise.
Working with regional partners, the city’s most recent achievement was successfully working with IRIS USA, an international consumer products company, on their newly-announced Western US headquarters in Surprise, which will bring more than $40 million in capital investment to the community.
“The City of Surprise is extremely fortunate to have a talented professional like Mike in our organization who is building a pipeline of industry and jobs,” says Surprise Assistant City Manager Rick Buss. “We are thrilled that he has been recognized for his contributions to both our community and his profession.”
Hoover was nominated in the Large Community category by AAED peers. The nomination was evaluated based on overall economic impact to the community, the development of strong relationships and community support, the innovation and creativity used in the process and contributions to the economic development profession.
